When I was younger, I used to reread a lot. Nowadays, while there are staple childhood faves that I can never get tired of revisiting, I don't prioritise rereading as much - mainly because there are so many new books on my TBR. There are, however, a number of books that I want to reread soon, for one reason or another...
Childhood Favourites
Il-Fiddien series by Simon Bartolo and Loranne Vella
I have never gravitated towards reading books in Maltese; I've always much preferred reading in English. But this series was an absolute treasure for me growing up. It's creepy, mysterious, magical, and just so well done. I read it a long time ago, but it still holds a very special place in my heart, so I want to start rereading it soon!
Chestnut Hill series by Lauren Brooke
This is a twelve book series following a set of girls that go to a boarding school which prioritises horse-riding as a sport. I have ridden a horse one time in my life, and that was only a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure why I loved this series so much growing up, but I did. I want to revisit it soon because I want to get back to the characters and the world.
Family Fan Club by Jean Ure
A story about four sisters wanting to get their parents back together. It's full of familial drama, but it's also full of love. The sisters all have big dreams, and their parents are both actors, and I think that element really hooked me as a kid.
Book I Remember Loving but Have Forgotten Why
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
I remember loving this gothic mystery when I first read it. I loved that it was different from any other classic I'd read at the time. Now, I kind of just remember it being weird, and I'm not sure why, so I want to revisit it to see what I think this time around.
1984 by George Orwell
I consider this one of my favourite classics of all time, and while I haven't really forgotten why it's so great, I want to revisit it because I basically just want to be astonished all over again.
Atonement by Ian McEwan
This one scares me a little bit. I do remember why I loved it, but that feeling's kind of faded over the years, and I want to see if it holds up upon a reread. The reason it scares me is because of the big twist at the end - I'm worried that the book won't have the same impact on me now that I know what happens.
Books I Read at the Wrong Time
Happy Birthday by Christina Jones
I was way too young to read this book when I did. It was a gift, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. That being said, I remember enjoying it, but I think I would appreciate it much more as an adult.
Animal Farm by George Orwell
I studied this for my O-Levels when I was 15. I hated it. I actually, technically, unhauled it. But everyone just sings this book's praises, and a part of me suspects that I was just too young to appreciate the book's message. I know I love Orwell's writing, so I want to give it another shot.
Books I Need to Reread to Continue/Finish Series
Warrior Princess by Allan Frewin Jones
This is the first book in the Destiny's Path series. I loved this book so much when I was younger; it's a medieval fantasy that gave me a strange interest in archery - to this day I've never even held a bow and arrow, but I still find the concept so cool.
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
I read this about 6 years ago, and while I remember the main gist, I want to reread it before picking up the sequel, i.e. The Testaments. This is another one I remember absolutely loving, so fingers crossed it holds up upon reread. I'm also excited to dive into my copy of it because it's full of annotations from when I studied it back in Sixth Form.
Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James
I know, I know, but in my defense, I did like the book, and I never got round to continuing the series, so I want to eventually do that.
Some Other Books I Remember Really Enjoying
Make Me Famous UK by Tina Pace
I remember loving this story - it's about a girl who goes to this talent competition, with a lot of ANTM vibes. At the time I really enjoyed it, though I am worried the writing for this isn't really that great. Well, I'll just have to reread to find out!
Celebrity Bride by Alison Kervin
This one was a really fun murder mystery, from what I can remember. It's full of socialites and people who look down their noses at the main character, but then the love interest was adorable, and I just remember enjoying this one.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
I don't care what anyone says about this book or Meyer - this series was gold. That's all I'm gonna say.
Okay, I hadn't really realised how many books I want to revisit before I made this post... Seems like I'm going to have to start prioritising rereading a bit more! Let me know: what's a book you never get tired of rereading?
